Rapid laboratory diagnosis
(Rapid laboratory diagnosis for infection diseases and detection of antimicrobial resistant organisms)

Rapid laboratory diagnosis is the cornerstone of prompt and appropriate implementation of infection control measures and the management of infectious diseases. The advances in technologies in recent years transformed the traditional microbiology laboratories from mostly culture-based to molecular-based tests. Harnessing Big data in clinical information systems allows the development of novel accurate prediction scores to assist risk stratification and timely clinical decision-making.

  • Application of NGS and mass spectrometry for direct detection of pathogens and outbreak investigations
  • Application of advanced diagnostic tests and machine learning algorithms for the detection of antimicrobial resistance
  • Implementation of machine learning-derived risk scores to predict complications and optimize management of Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis bacteremia in infective endocarditis
  • Gut microbiota and its association with health and diseases, e.g. attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), infertility, drug resistance
  • Multi-drug resistant organisms in intensive care unit
